I’ve blogged about being a mom and a writer before, but I’m going to again. Both are full time jobs. Both are rewarding beyond anything I’ve ever done. And both will make you want to beat your head against a wall.
And then along comes summer.
I know I lot of stay-at-home mom’s who dread summer vacation. They don’t like having to “entertain” their kids. They say it messes up their schedules and that nothing gets done. As for me, I LOVE summer break.
I end up entertaining myself as much as I entertain the kids. Going on vacation, hanging out by the pool, and going for ice cream at three in the afternoon. If the rain holds out, we’ll be going to the Greek Festival in Wilmington this afternoon.
I love the fact our schedules get all out of wack. I mean, who really wants to get up at six in the morning, race around like a fool, and need more time at the end of the day? So what if we eat dinner at six-thirty instead of six. In my opinion, summer should be all about slowing down and enjoy what you have, no matter your age.
And as for nothing getting done, I don’t believe it. I get so much more done when I don’t have to rush. And so what if the laundry falls a day or two behind. I rainy day will roll around eventually and I’ll get it caught up. But I know what you’re saying, “Beth, you’ll never have time to write.” WRONG. I wrote the rough draft of my first novel during the summer and I’m starting my third novel now.
Happy Summer!
