New Beginnings

Starting a new writing project is always an interesting task. What to write about, what the characters will be like, where to begin, and so forth. Every project is different and this one is no exception.

How is this one different, you ask? Because it hasn’t started. At least not yet.

Everyone I’ve said that to immediately assumes, and comments, about how horrible writer’s block must be. But it’s not writer’s block. The ideas flow through my head all day. There’s no shortage of story ideas here. Just exhaustion, at least that’s what I thought.

By the end of each day I just couldn’t bring myself to sit in front of the computer screen. Too tired, headache, dry eyes. Everyday there seemed to be a problem. Until one day, not too long ago, I had an “ah-ha” moment. My youngest child needed to take some cold medicine and, much to my horror, I couldn’t read the directions on the bottle. The print was small. If I held the bottle close to my face, everything was fuzzy. If I held the bottle far away, the letters were clearer but the print was too small. (I have never worn glasses.)

I knew I was overdue for an eye appointment, so I called, got an appointment for the next day, and headed off to my optometrist. I was overdue alright. Three years overdue. So two hours, a bunch of tests, and a pair of bifocals later, I finally know the problem. My eyes are getting old.

So until my glasses arrive (which should be soon), I’m laying off the computer and getting my house in order. That way, come the first of the month, I’ll have a clean house, new eyes, and a new project underway. I hope!
